Default What can you tell me about the Day?

I cannot stop thinking about Balenciaga. I tried the Twiggy last year and I know that style wasn't right for me, but I really did love everything else about it and sorta kinda regret selling it.

So now I'm back and I'm looking at more of a comfy shoulder bag style. The Day seems to fit the bill.

If I allow myself this purchase, it will probably be the only bag I buy this year (I'm not supposed to be buying anything). So I would like to learn as much as I can about the style beforehand. There is no chance I'll see this in person since there are no stores that sell Balenciaga around here.

Is this a comfortable easy to wear style? How flexible is that shoulder strap? Does it mold to the shoulder? I am planning to stick with a shade in the neutral color family. Has anyone had any trouble with color transfer with the lighter Balenciaga colors (like Sahara or Sandstone?) It seems big enough that it will hold everything I normally carry. Anything else I should know?

    Thanks!

LOL! I'm here!!! I love the Day style, and it fits really comfortably on the shoulder. I think the biggest complaint anyone ever has about it is that it can become a "black hole" for your things as it's a "long" style. however, I tend to keep all of my things in coin purses, wallets, etc. and never had an issue finding my things in a day when I've owned them (certainly no more than I have in a city or twiggy). The only other negative I've ever heard is that some feel the bag is too unstructured for them, but I really liked the casual feel of the bag and didn't find it too casual for work. Plus, it kind of conforms to your body, so it doesn't look too big.

As for color transfer, I have owned lighter colored bals and really haven't had an issue with color transfer (I have a pistachio twiggy now and have had no issues), but for good measure, you can always use some Applegarde- it won't affect the leather at all and won't leave any permanent smell or stains.

    Hope that helps!

After selling my first a few months ago, the next Bbag I want is the Day. I have played with them before and realized that its very much a black hole, but its one heck of a hot black hole.

I think I can deal with the black hole. I keep my stuff all tucked away in my Vera pouches so I think that will help. Just trying to decide if I'm ready to drop a crapload of $$$ on one bag.

I agree with everything said!! it is DEFINITELY by FAR the most comfiest bbag I've had!! the only thing I didn't love was the 'black hole' aspect but it was so comfy.

if it helps, I very rarely lost money on a bbag - so if you want to try one and don't like it, you should be able to recoup your money

ooo exciting possibility shelly! i have only explored balenciaga here on Faf but i have always liked the Day too. i think a b-bag could end up working for you for the price as long as you find one that you will use forever (as you are doing). as long as you used this regularly enough to make it worth it i think it would be awesome!

I really want one, but I am having extreme guilt issues for even thinking about it.

    Whoo hoo!

I'm late to the party, but the biggest trick to bbags always is finding the "right style" for your needs at the moment. I've gone through a number of styles - but the one thing I've realized is that as my needs change, so does the style bag that works best for me. If you've been considering the Day in the back of your mind for some time - then I think that might be reason enough to give it a shot. Abby had some great points, so I'll try to think of what else to say here...

Now that I'm looking more into "bags I can use as a mommy on the go", I'm kind of off of the handheld bag styles and more into bags that fit on the shoulder. The Bal GH Hobo was a fantastic purchase for me, and I absolutely love that bag! It's been the one bag that I think may have survived the longest in my collection (other then a City maybe... that is now gone). The Twiggies/City worked great for me a year or two ago, because I needed more of a professional style that I could wear to graduate work and classes. Since my lifestyle has changed since then, I've now been trying to re-evaluate myself what bbag styles would work best for me in the near future...

The positives of the Day style are that it is easy to use, you can put it on your shoulder and just forget it's there. Easy to get into and of course having the front zippered pocket that is on most of the Balenciaga styles is nice for cell phone and keys. It looks great with just a bit in it or stuffed too. The potential downsides are basically what Abby mentioned... it's long, so if you don't carry a whole lot - things for me tended to get lost around the bottom. (One remedy to this is not to use dark colored accessories since the lining is black. I was having the biggest problem with that when the accessories I had in their were all darker colored.) It wasn't a huge deal, but at the time I was more into Twiggies, I liked that I could just open them up and see exactly where everything without shifting anything around. And jeans transfer is a potential negative too since the bag is longer, which is a bigger deal for me since I wear jeans practically everyday. I don't think I could get away with a Day in a super light color like Ivory or Vert Deau - I would just ruin the back of it.

All that being taken into account... you beat me to the punch in bringing up this style, because I actually have a Day bag on it's way to me this week! LOL!! I've decided since I've gone back to wanting a larger bags and more of a shoulder style, that I would like to give the Day a chance once again. (Plus, I think it would be a fun style to have mommy items and just throw a few extra baby items in if you're just running out for a short bit.) I also really like that the Day looks really nice with casual clothing, but you can get away with it for business casual, depending on color, as well.

So my vote is for YES! Try the Day style! I'll be sure and post up my revised view on the Day once mine gets here this week, with more of a mommy point of view in mind.
